The Clarkstown Police Department has investigated a possible luring incident which occurred on Thursday, March 19, 2015 shortly after 5:30 PM on White Birch Court in New City.   A young child (less than 10 years of age) was walking home on White Birch Ct, when a passenger in a red pick-up truck reportedly asked the child “you wanna get in?”.  The child became nervous and ran to a neighbor’s house to tell an adult. New City, NY  (March 12, 2015) – Rockland County Legislators sent a letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo in support of NYS Senate and Assembly bills (S.3821/A.5355) that if passed, would authorize the State Commissioner of Education to appoint a state monitor to oversee the East Ramapo Central School District. Copies of the letter have been sent to state legislative leaders and the Commissioner of Education. South Orange Middle School Student Wins Gold Key Award

SOMS 7th grader Hannah Ahn has been awarded Gold Key recognition in the regional division of The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.  Over 300,000 works were submitted for entry to the competition nationwide.  Only the top 40% received any level of recognition.  Ahn has received the top honor and her work, kitchen harmony, created entirely out of paper, is currently being reviewed on a national level.  She is a student in teacher Arlene Sorensen’s 7th grade Challenger Lab.

Senior Sandra Goldstein Lehnert placed 1st for her historical paper entitled “Redefining Leadership: Ella Baker, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and the Legacy of Youth-Led Participatory Democracy in Activism.” Junior Livy Bartels placed 1st for her outstanding documentary about Albert Goering, a German businessman who helped save the lives of Jews and other dissidents during Hitler’s reign in Germany during World War II.  …
